Bay Espresso is opening a new cafe in Hastings' Market St on Tuesday, at the ex CBD Wine Bar and Cafe site.
Coffee guru Chris Jarvis said it was a great building.
"It looked like a Bay Espresso, so we thought we would inhabit it," he said.
"It has plenty of space inside,
which is nice this time of year."
Busy Bay business people would be well looked after. The coffee machine had been brought closer to the footpath for an espresso shot on the trot and there will be more grab-and-go food.
Owners Chris and Jonelle threw in their Wellington day jobs when they bought the first cafe in Karamu Rd seven years ago - they now have five.
He refined his self-taught roasting technique by constantly asking customers how they liked their coffee. Today half of his roasted Fair Trade beans are sold to other cafes.
He said there was no great secret to success. "Great coffee, nice atmosphere, good food and hospitable service."
Bay Espresso Market St will be open from 7.30am-4pm, Monday-Saturday.
