Hawke's Bay Today has appointed Patrick O'Sullivan as business editor.
He will also oversee the content of the weekly rural Heartland section.
Mr O'Sullivan has been the newspaper's business reporter since 2010 and Hawke's Bay Today editor Antony Phillips said his promotion was well deserved.
"Patrick has worked tirelesslyto improve our reporting on Bay businesses. As business editor he now assumes more control over our daily business coverage."
Mr O'Sullivan has previously written for NetGuide and New Zealand Listener. He moved to Hawke's Bay six years ago when offered a job while on holiday from Auckland.
The former company director, farmer and high school teacher said his many roles had helped him as a journalist.
"I'm relieved my many career switches are now seen as a good thing," he said.
"I hope more people come forward with their stories - there are so many businesses doing cutting-edge things. I am as excited about Hawke's Bay as I was the day I arrived."
