The judges will now make site visits before selecting category winners and, ultimately, the Westpac Supreme Business of the Year winner.
Chief judge Rick Cranswick said this year's awards would allow recognition of some fantastic local businesses.
"We're looking forward to digging deeper to uncover the best businesses in each category as well as this year's overall winner," Mr Cranswick said.
The Gen-I Breakthrough Award and Hawke's Bay Tourism, Tourism Industry Award finalists will be announced at the end of September.
