A new event in Hamilton's calendar will rumble its way into Frankton over the first weekend of March 2016.
Frankton Thunder, an initiative by a group of Hamilton automotive and motor racing enthusiasts, will offer the public displays and demonstrations by more than 40 clubs and organisations, along with swapmeet, entertainment and competitions.
It will also provide a new focus for the annual Ulysses Motorcycle Club child cancer toy run.
Among the entertainments will be the Miss Frankton competition. With a strong retro theme, the girls will be judged in two categories - rockabilly pin-up and vintage one- or two-piece swimwear.
Organiser Kat Wakefield said each category would have prizes for winners and runners-up - Miss Frankton Thunder 2016 and Miss Frankton Thunder runner-up 2016.
"There will be two wardrobe changes and contestants will be judged on personality, poise and overall appearance."
"We will provide changing facilities but contestants are responsible for providing their own mirrors and other items they may need to prepare. This is a family event and all costumes must be tasteful.
"The Frankton Thunder organisers are keen to stage a colourful and exciting event which can be built on for future years," says Kat.
Entries for Miss Frankton Thunder (R18) are now open and close Sunday, February 28.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Frankton Thunder Facebook page. Or call Kat 021 123 8999, missfranktonthunder@gmail.com.
