A team of 36 Maeroa Intermediate students picked up a swag of trophies and awards at the Sports Camp at Totara Springs in Matamata late last month.

The students competed in a variety of disciplines against intermediate schools from around the North Island. They picked up first place trophies in netball, boys' table tennis, mixed softball, triathlon, girls' indoor soccer, boys' indoor soccer, scramball, petanque, kayaking, golf, draughts and whole-in-one golf. Nikorai Paul was named joint top sports boy of the camp.

Karyn Grey, Maeroa's teacher in charge of the sports camp, said the icing on the cake was being named top school for the September round of Sports Camp 2012.

"Not only is sport camp about sporting talent and achievement, but new friendships, showing respect to others and demonstrating fair play," said Karyn.

"I am so proud of each and every student that I had the priviledge to take away."

She said the students gave "100 per cent" at every Friday afternoon practice this year.

"We have a lot to live up to next year, but with the calibre of students at Maeroa, we'll give it a really good go."

Maeroa Intermediate also took out second place in seven disciplines.
