Eastland Kart Club’s Anzac Champs produced an action-packed meeting with awesome racing.

All 10 out-of-town drivers who took part want to come back.

Tauranga driver Adam Mayor, who races at Te Aroha, won the 12-lap race to decide the Anzac champion.

The crowd had plenty of action to watch leading up to the final.

Everyone competing in the main event did a timed lap.

The drivers with the fastest eight times went into the “A main” division.

Karts were also assigned to the B main and C main divisions.

Races were held for each division. The top two karts from the C main races would go to the back of the B main, and the top three from the B main races, plus the winner of a repechage, would go to the back of the A main.

In the C main races, Scott Hibbert, of Hamilton, won two races, Roger Moss had two second placings, and Tessa Irvine and Koby Gooch each had a third placing. That meant Hibbert and Moss joined the back of the B main.

Doug Cornes won two B main races, Robert De La Haye had two second placings, and Brett Nolan and Buck Rogers each had a third placing.

The drivers who joined the back of the A main were Cornes, De La Haye and Nolan. Cornes and Nolan both come from Hamilton and race at Te Aroha.

Koby Gooch won the repechage to gain the remaining place at the back of the A main final.

The A main drivers had a few races before the final. Of these, Mayor won two. Daniel Taylor and Samuel Daidy each gained a second placing, and Vinzent MacGregor and Daidy each had a third placing.

Some hard racing lit up the 12-lap final. Behind winning driver Mayor were Peyton Chambers (Hamilton, Te Aroha club) in second place and Spring Thomson (Northland, Eastland club) in third place.

Fourth was Craig Hunter (Hamilton, Te Aroha and Waihi clubs), fifth was Vinzent MacGregor (Eastland) and sixth was Luca Vita (Eastland).

A 10-lap feature was held to give outside drivers more time on the track. Cornes won this, with Mayor second, having come from the back of the field, and local driver Harley Davis third.

Up-and-comers’ races for younger drivers still learning their craft resulted in three wins for Conrad Gooch, and two second placings and a third for Pyper Irvine. Noah Starr had a second placing and two thirds.
