Wairoa hosts the Gisborne East Coast centre's first champ of champs event this weekend — the triples.

Senior and under-8 years (experience) men's and women's teams will battle for club supremacy from 8.30am both days.

With only six clubs operating in the region, this year is the first time the champs will be a round-robin format.

The senior men's and u8 men's and women's competitions will be completed tomorrow. The open women will have one more round on Sunday.

Four clubs have entered the senior men's competition which will feature three rounds of 18 ends or a maximum of two hours and 15 minutes of play.

Wairoa: Graham Fitzpatrick, Vern Withey, Wayne Goodley.

There are only two entries in the u8 men's division — Kahutia (Joe Wimutu, Ray Young, Kingi Stevens) and Gisborne (Dan Barr, Don Oates Ron Robertson).

It is a long way to go to play a sudden-death game.

Perhaps they could have played this in Gisborne as Wairoa do not have an entry in this discipline.

Kahutia: Glenys Whiteman, Marie Wright, Paige Richter, who have the bye in the first round.

Te Karaka: Sarah Brown, Del Tamanui, Janet Baty.

Poverty Bay: Jan Powell, Erin Sutherland, Kathy Carroll.

Gisborne: Carol Hawes, Dayvinia Mills, Leslie McIntosh.

Wairoa: Glenda Kapene, Donna Smith, Jo Sturmey.

Poverty Bay: Kym Walters, Ngawai Turipa, Trish Leach.

Gisborne: Kym Brown, Adrienne Torrie, Karen Pinn.

Te Karaka: Dianne Murray, Barbara Tuhi, Erica Thompson.

Wairoa: Hine Whaanga, Penny Mitchell, Bernie Smiler.

For those in Wairoa or passing through, it could be worth popping down to the bowling club.

There will be some interesting match-ups over the course of the champs.
