DARTS

TAHUNA Irwin retained his Hawke’s Bay-East Coast club darts men’s singles crown at 2NZEF in Gisborne last weekend.

Juanita Reeves won the women’s title. Both she and Irwin were representing the Brezz’n club.

Gisborne players figured prominently in the results of Hawke’s Bay-East Coast club darts competition.

Darts players from Gisborne, the East Coast, Wairoa, Napier and Hastings took part in the Hawke’s Bay-East Coast clubs open pairs on Saturday and closed singles on Sunday.

Results —Men’s pairs: Kayne Arahanga and Cris Kiri (2NZEF) 1; Irie and Hunter Eyles (Brezz’n) 2.

Women’s pairs: Mihi Awatere and Ripeka Te Kira (Brezz’n) 1; Tina Aspalter (2NZEF) and Kino White (Brezz’n) 2.

Men’s singles: Tahuna Irwin (Brezz’n) 1; Joe Kiri (Brezz’n) 2.

Women’s singles: Juanita Reeves (Brezz’n) 1; Sha Hohipa (Cosmopolitan Club).

Tributes were paid to 2NZEF for their hosting of the tournament, and to retiring Hawke’s Bay-East Coast club darts president Gordon Hodges, his wife Sheree and the committee for the smooth running of the competition.

Hawke’s Bay-East Coast club darts president for 2020 will be Gisborne’s Willie Edwards.

Next year’s tournament will be held in Hastings, where they will be celebrating their 75th jubilee.
