The club has held three rounds of practice in the past month.
“Everyone’s cars are ready to go and there have been some quick practice times.”
The higher standard of vehicle presentation has also been noticeable, MacGregor said.
“The boys have brought some new stock cars to town, notably Jason Lovell, who will be behind the wheel of a V6-powered Holden.
“He’s raced out of town already and finished third behind Peter and Asher Rees at the Palmerston North track’s opening meeting, and he was second at Meeanee in Hawke’s Bay recently.
“Jason is obviously on the pace.”
A family affairThe Rees family will be here in full force this weekend, driving stocks and super stocks.
“We expect to have eight-to-10 superstocks out there tomorrow night, which is very exciting,” MacGregor said.
It has been some years since superstocks were a regular feature of the Gisborne season.
“1NZ Peter Rees will race, along with his sons Asher and Ethan. Ex-Gisborne driver and former 1NZ Joe Faram will be here as well in his vehicle.”
There will be a 13-strong streetstock field tomorrow night.
“The usual suspects are back again this year, spearheaded by 2014-15 driver of the year Aaron Brown, who tidied his car up from last season and lifted its performance again,” MacGregor said.
McArthur's rebuilt vehicleBen McArthur has rebuilt his car as well.
The sidecar component of the programme will hold extra interest, with Barry Irvine back out on the track and ex-Aucklander Steve Kryncki also in action.
Rob Miller and swinger Hamish White have been racing well already while Deane Miller — Rob’s father — is coming out of retirement armed with a new swinger.
Fraser Wright is likely to be a front-runner among the 10 drivers in the production saloons field.
“Ex-youth ministocker Bryce Simpson makes his debut in the class in his Falcon,” MacGregor said.
The ministock field is by far the biggest class with 20-plus cars, and at least a dozen six-shooters are expected tomorrow night.
“Hamish Moore, driver of the year in the class last season, will look to start well, along with Bailey Curtis. Both have competed well out of town already,” he said.
"The man to beat there will probably be Reece Lister but he will be chased hard, I suspect, by new driver Chris Mackie, who has been going great guns at practice.”
The saloon car field of eight includes brothers Ethan and Daniel Cook, and Dave Moorcroft.
“Dave’s already done two meetings out of town this season and won the opening meeting at Meeanee two weeks ago. He also raced very well at Baypark last weekend.”
Cars from Hawke’s Bay and Rotorua will add to the numbers tomorrow night. Gates to the speedway open at 5pm and racing starts from 7pm.
