SPEEDWAY

RAIN cut short Gisborne Speedway Club’s first meeting of 2021 and the Law-Cartmell Memorial sidecar event had to be decided on just two races on Saturday.

A heavy downpour stopped racing after about an hour.

“We just could not get the track back into racing condition after the rain,” a club official said.

“That was really disappointing. There’s nothing we can do about the weather, and at least we got some racing in.”

Palmerston North duo Mark Whye and Jacob Cooper (96P) were awarded the coveted Law-Cartmell Memorial Trophy after the two races staged, and Gisborne father-and-son team Toby and Dylan Lardelli (99G) were the runners-up.

Aucklanders Peter Adams and Jason Hira (6A) were third.

Gisborne rider Paul Habib, on (7G), raced well to record a second and a third in the solo bikes.
