POVERTY Bay (1) outclassed Tolaga Bay to win the Oligoi Jug men’s interclub pennants golf title yesterday.

PB’s top two players — William Brown and Peter Kerekere — anchored the victory on their home course in the 36-hole matchplay final.

Kerekere, at No.2 in the team, demolished Dion Milner 13 and 12 after leading 10-up after 18 holes, thanks to a 3-under par 69.

Brown was far too strong for Bruce Yates, the pair shaking hands on the 28th.

The other two matches were closer affairs. Poverty Bay No. 4 Tini Hawea led Taine Lincoln 5-up with five holes to play, meaning Poverty Bay had sealed the victory, and the pair shook hands on the 31st.

PB No.3 Simon Jeune led Tere Lincoln 2-up at that stage so the pair also headed back to the clubhouse.

The Gisborne Park team of Jayden Bright, Daniel Collier, Sel Peneha and Tom Teneti defeated Patutahi 6-2 over 18 holes to finish third overall.

Kerekere, who won all seven of his matches over the pennants, was presented the sportsman trophy as player of the series.
