A BIG win to Simon Jeune was the highlight of an otherwise tough day at the office for Poverty Bay-East Coast as the Freyberg Masters teed off in Hamilton yesterday.
Jeune, at No.2 in the five-man team, had a 5 and 4 victory over Steffan Hepburn as PBEC losttheir opening matchplay tie 3½-1½ against Hawke’s Bay on the Hamilton course.
The half was provided by No.3 Tony Akroyd against Mark Tasker.
No.1 Anaru Reedy was pipped 1-up by Nick Radonich, No.4 Peter Clayton lost 3 and 2 to Richard Baines and No.5 Glenn Morley’s debut at the over-40s tournament resulted in a 6 and 4 loss to David Wilkinson.
Wellington proved too good for PBEC in Round 2, the capital side running out comfortable 5-0 victors.
Reedy lost 5 and 3 to Jonathan Cane; Jeune 3 and 2 to Elton Nicholson; Akroyd 6 and 4 to Brad Rowland; Clayton 4 and 3 to Malcolm Gullery; and Morley 7 and 6 to Mike Trass.
PBEC were to face Bay of Plenty this morning and Aorangi in the afternoon.
