WAKA AMA

HOROUTA Waka Hoe crews tasted gold and silver in V6 1000 metre finals on Day 7 of the Va’a World Sprint Championships in Tahiti.

Junior 16 women’s crew Puhi Kaiariki started Horouta’s multiple medal performance with gold, winning their final by nearly 13 seconds. Crew members were Ariata Kutia, Gaibreill Wainohu, Katarina Niblett, Kelsey Teneti, Rangi-Riana Williams and Te Aomihia Pewhairangi.

Master 40 women’s crew Nga Kopara Toa made it a second gold for Horouta. They crossed the finish line 3secs ahead of the silver medallists. Nga Kopara Toa comprised Kathy Keelan, Peni Niwa, Penny Scragg, Sheryl Tuari, Tui McCaull and Violet Tuapawa-Crawford.

Three of the J16 crew were also in the Hinetoa crew who were second in the J19 women’s final. Wainohu, Teneti and Williams were joined by Keri Ngatoro, Kian Glass-Donaldson and Maia Niwa-Apelu.

Horouta’s Kaiarahi Toa crew of Cory Campbell, Florrie Brooking, Kiwi Campbell, Kodi Campbell, Sieda Tureia and Tui McCaull were second in the open women’s V6 1500 final. Vesna Radonich raced in the heats but not the final.

Mareikura club member Raipoia Brightwell was in Ruamata club crew Ngaruroa, who were third in the master 50 women’s V6 1000 final.

Horouta’s Woolley Kumaras were fourth in the open men’s V6 1500 final and the club’s Daddy Heli’s were sixth in the J19 men’s V6 1000 final.
