Patutahi’s Eddie Brown jr bounced back from a couple of defeats at the Oligoi Jug senior men’s pennants on Saturday with one of the rounds of the day at the Eagles Golfing Society-run charity tournament on Sunday.
Brown jr shot 74-7-67 — the equal-best net of the day, alongside Waikohu’s Tama Brown (86-19-67).
Eddie’s round was something of an amusement park ride. He mixed five birdies, including a two on the 11th, with four bogeys and a triple bogey 7 on the 17th.
Home-course player Nick Whyte topped the men’s gross with 72.
Ellen Ball’s 79 won the women’s gross.
Poverty Bay’s Marg Colebourne and Waikohu’s Marg Tuapawa led the women’s net scoring on 71.

Gisborne Eagles Society secretary Don McFadyen said the tournament made around $4000 — “the best we’ve ever done” — and he made special mention of the fundraising efforts of fellow Eagle Graeme “Pinky” Eriksen.
All money raised goes to the Halberg Sport Disability Foundation to be used locally.

ROB Fletcher, Marg Colebourne and Jenny Loffler topped the podium at the Kiri Te Kanawa Retirement Village mixed veterans’ open tournament on Friday.
Fletcher’s 93-25-68, for 40 points, won the men’s section; Colebourne’s 87-15-72, for 37, the women’s division; and Loffler’s 18 points was best of the 9-holers’ on countback.

Poverty Bay member MacKinnons sits atop the women’s standings with 112 points from three events, nine ahead of Park’s Carolyn Carpendale — meaning a husband-wife title double is a possiblity — with another Park player, Jean Foot, third on 97.
Those women considering entering the New Zealand Veteran Golfers Association Nationals at Poverty Bay in December are out of luck.
The women’s field is full and there are only a handful of spots left in the men’s field for the December 6 to 10 tournament.
A TWO on the seventh hole helped Terry Pointon to men’s net glory on Sunday. He won with 83-14-69.
Jo Kerr warmed up for the national women’s teams Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay district final at the Poverty Bay course on Monday with victory in the women’s stableford on Sunday.
Kerr shot 4-over 77-6-71, for 38 points.
Jean Foot (7) won the women’s net on Saturday and Dave Te Maro racked up 41 points, thanks to his 94-27-67, to win the Tuesday veterans’ stableford last week.
