FOUR premier team officials will go before the Poverty Bay Rugby Union judicial committee tomorrow night following a scuffle in Friday night’s match between Ngatapa and Pirates.

“A complaint has been made regarding two officials from both clubs leaving the technical area and going on to the field,” said Poverty Bay Rugby Union chief executive Marty Davis.

“Looking at the video of the game the officials are in restraining mode but the fact remains they should not have entered the field of play.

“One was sent from the technical area and the match officials on the night handled the situation correctly.”

Davis said all games at Rugby Park are being videoed this year.

“The clubs and referees are given copies of the video to assist them in developing their skills, and in situations such as this, can be used to determine exactly what went on. We certainly don’t condone officials or anyone other than the players being on the field but these guys (officials) are all vounteers.

“There was an incident but it was not catastrophic and the judiciary will deal with it tomorrow night.”
