HOCKEY

THEY had to settle for second-best in the grand finals but Amy England and Piri Orotaunga collected the top individual awards for the Poverty Bay club hockey season.

GMC Green’s England was named Female Player of the Year while THC’s Orotaunga was Male Player of the Year.

Green were beaten by YMP A in the A Grade women’s final.

THC lost to YMP A in the A Grade men’s final.

The other finalists for the women’s award were Kelsey Teneti (GMC Green) and Courtney Onekawa (YMP A).

The other finalists for the men’s awards were Tamanay Tuhou (THC), Josh Cousins (YMP A) and Thomas Rutene (YMP A).

Teneti won the Upshot Memorial Trophy for contribution by a player under 16 years of age.

The Neil Hopps Memorial for overall achievement of excellence went to international umpire Jo Cumming.

Runners-up (FH Griffin Cup): GMC Gold.

A Grade (Kerekere Cup): YMP A.

Runners-up (George Tupara Trophy): GMC Green.

Runners-up (Turbitt Cup): THC.

Women, most points in competition at the end of Round 2 pool play, B Grade (Tupara Family Trophy): GMC Kowhai.

Runners-up (TKK Ladies’ Cup): YMP B.
