GISBORNE saloon car racers, brothers Daniel and Ethan Cook, took the two top spots on the podium at the Meeanee Raceway’s final speedway meeting of the season last weekend.

Elder brother Daniel, 25, took out the David Jones Motors Gold Cup for saloon cars on Saturday. Ethan, 22, finished runner-up.

The brothers shared the wins on the night in the 12-car field, Daniel taking the chequered flag twice and Ethan once.

“I had two firsts and a second, and Ethan had a first, a second and a sixth,” Daniel said.

The field had cars from Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston North, Rotorua and Gisborne.

“It was awesome to win, especially because the meeting sponsor is also one of the main sponsors for both Ethan and me,” Daniel said.

“David Jones does all our motor work and we put a new motor in my car just before Easter. It’s gone well since then.”

Daniel won two other Hawke’s Bay titles at Easter.

It was a special night for his younger brother.

“That was Ethan’s first podium in the saloons.

“He deserved to get there before now but has had a few hiccups along the way.

“He was thrilled to finally get there.”
