Poverty Bay Bowling Club members enjoyed some very competitive bowling in the handicap singles played over the weekend of September 3 and 4.

Each player played three games of first-to-21 or two hours, on the Saturday or Sunday. Men and women played in the same draw but winners were found for both women and men.

Win Baker and Joy Davis both had three wins and a differential of 20 and both won 30 ends, so they were joint women’s winners.

Three men had three wins. Andrew Ball was the first man with a differential of 31. Jack Clark was second with a differential of 29 and Gerry Kora was third with a differential of 27.

Many games were decided on the last end — a sign that the handicapping was done well. It made for great entertainment for spectators and was exciting for the players.

This was the first singles competition for several new players, and their bowling progressed with each game.
