Mo Kapua skipped the winning team at Kahutia Bowling Club’s three-bowl triples tournament last Wednesday afternoon.

Joan Gledhill was lead for the team and Frank McLoughlin, the director, as they recorded three straight wins in the Heavy Equipment Services-sponsored tournament.

Playing conditions were ideal and a good turnout of bowlers from the town clubs supported the tournament.

Ten teams each played three games of eight ends, with a time limit of 65 minutes. Wins and differential determined the placings.

Runners–up were Erin Sutherland (skip), Ray Young (director) and Win Baker (lead), with two wins and a draw.

Third were Andrew Ball (skip), Barbara Gibson (director) and Otto Louw (lead) with two wins and a plus-31 differential.

The lucky draw was won by Ropata Ruwhiu (skip), Marie Thomas (director) and Libby Clay (lead).

Maurice Taylor and his team of Joan Gledhill and Alan Parker won the Cosmopolitan Club Triples on the Gisborne Bowling Club’s greens.

They had three wins.

A field of 48 players contested the tournament.

Second were Mike Harris (skip), Bruce Gledhill and Karen Pinn.

Third were Joyce Wagner, Rod Young and Harry Jackson.

The lucky draw prize went to the team of Erin Sutherland, Adrienne Torrie and Geoff Pinn.

The Gisborne Glass-sponsored Hilton Croskery Triples tournament was played in conditions so hot that the three games were reduced to two.

Robin Jefferson’s team of Bruce Gledhill and Bob Morley managed their bowls and the extreme heat the best and were the eventual winners.
