AN entry of 42 windswept bowlers enjoyed an afternoon of three one-hour games for the Gisborne Bowling Club Closing Day before the club prizegiving to end the season.

It was not easy going but some managed to show their skills despite the weather.

Taking first place were Boon McIlroy (skip), Peter Ferris and Hugh Trafford with three wins and 22 points.

Second were Rod McCulloch (skip), Dan Barr and Janet Willson with two wins and a draw and 8 points.

Third were Emily Hongara (skip), Bruce Easton and Bruce Smart with two wins and a draw.

Badges and certificates were presented at the conclusion of the bowls.

Special mention should be made of Dayvinia Mills, who was in the winning singles, pairs, triples and fours teams — an outstanding achievement that showed what she brings to a team as each win was achieved with different partners.

In the junior section, Karen Pinn won all the junior club championships except for the mixed pairs, showing the value of practice.
