The region’s future leaders put their heads together to examine solutions to issues caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.
The Aurora Education Foundation is a local gifted and talented education charitable trust. Its flagship and best known programme is based on developing strong community leadership skills in Years 6-8 youngsters.
“This year,
our focus area is particularly relevant and meaningful to Gisborne-Tairāwhiti: Growing Resilient Leaders for a Crisis,” trust executive director Karen Bush said.
“We are immensely proud of our young Aurora leaders. In extremely difficult circumstances this year, these students have got stuck in to the challenge of operating at a much higher level of performance than their school-age peers. They have been working very hard collaboratively to identify and find practical solutions to the confronting issues caused by the catastrophic Cyclone Gabrielle.”
The students presented their findings in a “grand finale” at Lawson Field Theatre yesterday. “It is all about presenting their research findings to the local community as a showcase and celebration of their personal leadership journeys,” said Mrs Bush.
