Wednesday one of the warmest for April: 26.4deg

Gisborne recorded one of its warmest April days on Wednesday with a high of 26.4 degrees.

The last time it was this warm was April 11, 2021, when the temperature hit 27.8.

The warmest April day on record for Gisborne was 28.5 degrees on April 2, 2017.

The National Weather Archive shows six days have been 27 degrees or above since 1990, but only five days passed 27 in the 1937 to 1990 period.

The mercury has only passed the 28-degree mark twice since official records started in 1937 — in 2013 and 2017.

These figures suggest a gradual warming trend in April in line with the general warming trend shown in Gisborne data since 1937. — RH
