Emergency services responded to reports of a workplace incident on Judd Rd just after 8am today. Photo / Gisborne Herald

A person has been critically injured in a workplace incident near Gisborne.

Emergency services responded to the incident on Judd Rd, Waituhi, shortly after 8am.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said one ambulance, one rapid response unit, one operations manager and one air rescue helicopter responded to the scene.

Ambulance staff treated one person in a critical condition and took them to Gisborne Hospital by road.

Police said WorkSafe had been advised.

A WorkSafe spokesman said WorkSafe was aware of the incident and was making initial inquiries into the circumstances.

Employees at the orchard sites on Judd Rd declined to comment when approached by the Gisborne Herald.
