We have been told that Russia interfered with the recent US presidential election. No evidence has been produced to support this, but even if it were true, one has to marvel at the hypocritical effrontery of such an assertion.
As with people, the ethical values of governments should be measured
by what they actually do, rather than what they say. By this criterion, the use of the word “democracy” by successive US governments is, to say the least, hollow, as the following examples show.
As documented in Wikipedia, in 1953 the democratically-elected government of Mohammad Mosaddegh in Iran was overthrown by a CIA-organised coup, and replaced by the dictatorship of the Shah. In 1954 in Guatamala, the CIA organised the overthrow of the democratically-elected government of Jacobo Arbenz. In 1973 the CIA brought down the democratically-elected government of Salvador Allende in Chile. All these coups d’état were followed by years of terror in which thousands were murdered, tortured, or “disappeared”. These are but a few of the dozens of well-documented examples of the role of the CIA in the overthrow of governments. In hypocrisy, the United States has no rivals.
