COMMUNITY service workers could play a role in tackling Gisborne’s weed problem, a district councillor has said.
“I have spoken to people at community services, and heard they often struggle to find tasks for [community service workers] to do,” councillor Andy Cranston said during a meeting of Gisborne District Council’s
environmental planning and regulations committee.
Titirangi (Kaiti Hill) had particularly bad issues with weeds, especially holly-leaved senecio, which could be cleared along the walkways, and in other parts of the district along roadsides.
“Why can’t we have some sort of negotiation with the appropriate people in community service to see if there are opportunities for them in those areas?
“I used to see them working along the roadside, between Wainui and town. It could be an opportunity to look into.”
