Beaches and water were the main themes among more than 300 pictures sent in for the summer photo competition The Gisborne Herald ran on our Facebook page.

There were so many amazing pictures it was difficult to choose a winner but we had to, so without further ado . . . it is Waimana Riki Gray, aged four (he is now six). His mum Samantha Riki took the photo of him at Blue Waters, Tolaga Bay - a favourite swimming and playing spot for the family in summer.

A close runner-up is Katie Sadlier’s picture of her daughter Nyah Sadlier, aged 3, taken at Turihaua Point.

The post featuring spectacular photos of our district has been pinned to the top of The Gisborne Herald Facebook page to make it easy to find, and will stay there for a week.
