The cruise ship Silver Nova came to town on a sweltering Sunday and it was a successful day despite the heat.

More than 600 passengers and some crew came ashore to enjoy a range of activities that included a ride on the Wa165 steam train, winery visits and cycling.

“The day went very well,” a ship’s agent said. “The hot temperature was a little challenging for them, but the feedback we got from the passengers was certainly positive. They had a good day.”

The Silver Nova arrived from Tauranga around 8am and sailed for Napier at around 7pm.

The next cruise ship to call into Gisborne is the Azamara Pursuit on Saturday.
