A car and trailer used by a man as a place to stay on Gisborne’s Kaiti Beach Rd were destroyed in a fire early on Sunday morning.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand received the first 111 call about it about 3am.

“The vehicle and trailer were fully involved in fire when we got there,” a senior station officer said.

“Both were completely destroyed.

“The car and trailer, plus the contents, were a total loss in the fire.

“It also set alight to vegetation around the vehicle.”

“The man who was living there got out okay.”
