Eastland Port had a great month for shipping in May with 11 log ships alongside the wharf. They took away more than 290,000 tonnes of logs.

The success of the month came down to efficient loading by ISO Limited and good weather, a port spokesperson said.

“There were only 90 hours of weather delays — this is more than half the hours of weather delays we saw in May 2022 and May 2021.

“Unfortunately, the coastal container shipping service came to an end last month after a very successful stint of three months supporting local businesses impacted by the closure of State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa.”

During the three-month charter of the Rangitata there were 18 voyages and 294 containers moved between Napier Port and Eastland Port.

“We thought this would be the last time we would see the Rangitata for a while, but it turns out she will likely return in a couple of weeks’ time with a few thousand tonnes of fertiliser for a local agriculture company.”
