Leading suburbs near 90 percent for first dose

WHATAUPOKO East is on the verge of reaching the 90 percent vaccine target for first doses, with 89.2 percent of residents having had their first jab.

The bad news is that the region-wide figures for the first dose, at 77 percent, and for both doses, at 62 percent, remain the lowest in the country.

Ministry of Health figures, up to October 27, show Northland second-lowest at 78 percent for the first dose while Northland, Lakes (Rotorua-Taupo) and Taranaki all recorded 63 percent for both doses.

The next best performing first dose suburbs in Gisborne are Hexton and Wainui-Okitu on 87.7 percent and 86.3 percent respectively.

Leading the way with double-vaccinated residents are Lytton with 78.7 percent, Whataupoko East on 77.0 percent and Hexton with 74.8 percent.

At the other end of the vaccination spectrum, with double-vaccinated residents, are Kaiti Outer with 40.4 percent, Tamarau with 48.9 percent and Elgin with 49.4 percent.

In terms of first dose vacination numbers, Kaiti Outer brings up the rear with 60.0 percent, then Ruatoria-Raukumara on 64.2 percent and Elgin on 66.4 percent.

The vaccination figure for the country is 87 percent for the first dose and 72 percent for both doses.

For Maori in Tairawhiti, 67 percent have had first doses compared to a nationwide figure for Maori of 71 percent; 49 percent of Tairawhiti Maori have had both doses, while nationally the figure is 51 percent.

For Pasifika in Tairawhiti, 89 percent have had first doses compared to 84 percent of Pacific peoples nationally; 69 percent have had second doses, compared to 66 percent nationally for Pacifika.
