Kia ora everyone. Week two of the lockdown is coming to an end and so far our district has emerged relatively unscathed compared to other regions. Could our location and isolation be a blessing after all?
Being in lockdown means we are vulnerable to other threats besides Covid-19. There are
reports of bogus Red Cross workers making house calls (not in Gizzy), increased telemarketing and scam phone calls; hiked prices, con-artists and idiots like the guy in Christchurch coughing over shoppers. We need to be aware that some unscrupulous people are using this difficult time to try to take advantage of us. “Kia tupato”, be vigilant.
Yesterday I had two phone calls both from supposedly legitimate contractual veterans support organisations requesting personal information over the phone. How they got my information to initiate the call is beyond me. In my case I made several cross-checks and alerted the appropriate authorities.
Please people, be careful and cautious in these trying times, especially you “boomers” out there.
To all of us — chin up, look on the bright side and remember nothing lasts forever. Including Covid-19.
