Opinion

Re: Last Thursday night’s paper, blessing or cursing.

Allow me to draw attention to some passages from the Bible (New Living Translation). Genesis 12 verse 2-3; (God speaking to Abram) I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you; Genesis 28v13, God said to Jacob, I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham and your father Isaac, the ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants; Leviticus 25v23, (God said to Moses) The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me. You are only tenant farmers working for me. Then there is God’s promise through Isaiah to Israel in chapter 60 and other places.

As to what Jesus might think; He would have mankind’s attitude to each other be — from Luke 6 v27-28 — But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you, Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.

Perhaps a look at Psalm 2 might put things in perspective for people: Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time in futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle, the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.

I will leave it there for people to read for themselves. There is the choice of God’s way or mankind’s. The choice is yours.
