Gisborne District Council is working through 118 submissions for the final fees and charges of the Kiwa Pools following community consultation.
The $46 million complex is set to open in March 2023, but local swimming club Comet expressed concern last week that proposed lane hireage fee increases could be too
much for the club to foot.
Council liveable communities director Michele Frey said it asked the community for feedback in September around the draft proposed charges for Kiwa Pools, and would work through the submissions.
“Keeping the cost of access low for programmes and activities that build the water safety skills and confidence of our tamariki and rangitahi are ways the council can positively contribute to reducing harm from water-based incidents in our region. “Council discounts will apply to lane hire rates for schools and aquatic-based sports.
“This discount recognises the benefit to the facility of having a core of long-term, reliable hirers.”
