THE New Zealand doctor who died in a paragliding accident in France worked in Gisborne for three years. Charlotte O'Leary was at Gisborne Hospital from 2017 to 2019.
An experienced paraglider, Ms O'Leary was holidaying in Europe with her brother when the fatal accident happened at Saint-André-les-Alpes, an acclaimed paragliding
site in France.
It is understood her body was being repatriated home.
Ms O'Leary had been living more recently in Queenstown and planned to return to New Zealand for the winter ski season at Coronet Peak.
NZSki chief executive Paul Anderson said she was an experienced emergency doctor who was coming back for her second season with the mountain's medical rescue team.
