POLICE have charged the driver of a log truck that crashed on State Highway 2 at Bartletts in the Whareratas yesterday afternoon. Emergency services were called at 3.15pm.
“The truck and trailer unit carrying logs failed to negotiate a left hand bend near Paritu Road and the truck rolled onto its side, spilling its load,” said Sergeant Dean Plowman. The truck was travelling towards Gisborne.
“The highway was closed while contractors worked to remove the truck and clear the road.”
The driver, a 52-year-old Gisborne man, was checked over at the scene by ambulance officers but did not need to go to hospital.
“He will appear in the Gisborne District Court next month charged with careless driving.
“Police would like to thank those who stopped and assisted at the time and we also acknowledge the patience of motorists delayed while the road was cleared.”
