The sheep dog trials at next week’s 150th anniversary Poverty Bay A&P Association Spring Show have attracted a quality field.

Trials spokesman Ross Buscke said the 191 entries were a good-sized number of runs.

“There are dog trialists coming from all over the North Island for it,” Buscke said.

“The field includes 27 female competitors and several of them will run three to four dogs.”

Tahurau Earthmovers has sponsored the Tux Yarding Challenge this year.

The competition starts next Wednesday.

“There will be 18 novices among the runs that day,” Buscke said. “Which is great to see.”

The championship will conclude with the final run-off on the Saturday morning of the A&P Show.

The sheep will again be provided by Rangatira Station from Te Karaka.

Henry Gaddum will be the head steward in the dog trials this year.
