Gisborne’s Fijian population put on a wonderful display of culture and colour on Saturday, when 200 people attended the region’s Fiji Day celebrations.
The event was organised by the Tairawhiti Multicultural Council and TMC president Vijen Reddy said it was a wonderful day with a huge turnout of people from
Gisborne and Wairoa at Ilminster Intermediate School.
The day started with a Fijian ceremony followed by speeches from guests, including deputy mayor Rehette Stoltz.
Mr Reddy said the event, which marked the 45th year of Fiji’s independence, also included traditional Fijian performers and a sports day.
