The community is urged to get out and support the Bay of Plenty Steamers at this Saturday's big Mitre 10 Cup Championship semifinal against Otago.

Tauranga Domain will play host with tickets expected to be in high demand.

The ground last hosted a semifinal in 2000 when the Steamers defeated King Country 48-30 to gain promotion to Division One of the National Provincial Championship.

Bay of Plenty Rugby chief executive Mike Rogers is calling the Bay of Plenty community to come out in force and "Back the Bay" this weekend.

"This is a great opportunity for the Bay of Plenty community to come out and support our team.

"It was a great buzz last weekend and it was fantastic to see the support from the community with over 5000 in attendance. We know the guys are excited about this weekend and we know with the crowd backing them it will give them the extra edge," he said.

Tickets for this Saturday's Mitre 10 Cup semifinal, kicking off at 2.35pm, will be available on www.ticketmaster.co.nz.

Those who purchase their tickets online will pay from $20 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children, with Under 5s free.
