The annual Battle of the Bridge junior cricket tournament at Waipuna Park was taken out by Tauranga/Katikati teams who beat their Mount Maunganui/Te Puke counterparts by the narrow margin of three games to two.
The Battle of the Bridge was introduced by Western BOP Junior Cricket, to give primary school players
another step along the cricket pathway.
The Intermediate Reserve game on Sunday was a close contest, with the Tauranga and Katikati side posting a four-run victory.
The biggest winning margin came in the Division Two Gold match, where Mount/Te Puke posted a grand total of 156 in the 20 over apiece game - and then bowled the opposition out for 78.
In the other Division Two match Tauranga/Katikati defended 71 to prevail by 10 runs.
Honours were shared in the Division One encounters, with the Tauranga combined side posting 84 in the Gold division then removing the opposition for 60 - with the Mount/TePuke chasing down 129 for victory in the Blue division.
Results
Intermediate reserve: Tauranga/Katikati 85 defeated Mount/Te Puke 81.
Div One Gold: Tauranga/Katikati 84 defeated Mount/Te Puke 60.
Div One Blue: Tauranga/Katikati 129 lost to Mount/Te Puke 130.
Div Two Gold: Mount /Te Puke 156 defeated Tauranga/Katikati 78.
Div Two Blue: Tauranga/Katikati 71 defeated Mount/Te Puke 61.
