Tauranga City United's run in this season's Chatham Cup was short-lived when they lost 3-0 away to Waitemata City on Saturday.
Tauranga coach Duncan Lowry acknowledged before the match that the tie would be a tricky one.
Waitemata is the top team in the Auckland Federation Conference League, with afive win - no loss record, and more importantly, due to injuries and non availability, Tauranga were only able to field 10 fully-fit players.
The home team took the lead just before halftime, added another midway through the second half and completed the scoring in the dying minutes.
The other local sides competing had better luck with Federation 1 Tauranga Old Blues downing their Federation 2 rivals Hukanui Rototuna 5-1, while the all-Federation 1 battle at Whakatane resulted in a 4-1 win for AFC Fury.
