While defending Seeka KI Western BOP champions Tauranga Sports held on to the Hardy Rosebowl (WBOPRFS Challenge Trophy) against Judea on Easter Friday, they were given a real shake by the home team.

The visitors to Maharia Winiata Park held a relatively narrow 13-7 advantage at the halftime break. In the second spell, the two sides traded tries, with Tauranga Sports leading by just two points with time up on the clock. In the last play of the game, Tauranga Sports intercepted a promising Judea attack to score under the posts with the resulting conversion giving the visitors a 36-27 win.

First up in the Easter break was the encounter at Maramatanga Park between Te Puna and Te Puke Sports on Thursday night. The curtainraiser to the premier game became a battle of attrition, with Te Puke Sports snatching a 14-12 victory.

Former Western Bay and Baywide Reserve Grade champions Mount Maunganui laid down the gauntlet to the other Western Bay sides, posting a 65-17 win over Rangataua in the early game at Te Ariki Park on Easter Friday.

Arataki ran in six tries to nil when they defeated Greerton Marist 36-15 at Grenada Park. Another Easter Friday match-up saw Matakana Island return to their headquarters with a 28-10 win over near neighbours Katikati. Rangiuru continued their unbeaten start to the season defeating Eastern Districts.
