Matakana Island ran riot to beat Eastern Districts 98-19 in a Seeka KI Western BOP championship fixture played on Saturday.

Defending Western Bay champions Tauranga Sports also had a significant victory when Katikati paid a visit to the Tauranga Domain. The 68-10 victory was the home team's third successive win in the 2013 title race. They also retained the Hardy Rosebowl challenge prize.

Arataki won against Mount Maunganui, taking home a 10-8 win. Rangiuru just got past Judea 10-8 in the early game at Centennial Park. Rangataua beat Te Puke Sports 57-27 in the curtain-raiser at Murray Salt Stadium.

The Seeka KI Western BOP Colts competition kicked off their short and sharp local Colts round on Saturday, before the Western Bay teams head for the Baywide age group championship. Greerton Marist relieved Te Puna of the Oliver Cup (WBOPRFS Challenge trophy) grabbing a 36-7 victory at Greerton Park.

Defending Colts champions Mount Maunganui started their title defence against former Baywide titleholders Te Puke Sports, in the curtain-raiser at Blake Park. The 27-17 win to Mount Maunganui suggested that both sides will be serious contenders in the chase for Western Bay and Baywide silverware.
