Te Puke first-five Nick McCashin may not have Super Rugby franchises throwing cash at him right now but it may be only a matter of time.
The 27-year-old scored 44 points - four tries and 12 conversions - in his team's 89-5 demolition of Waikite at the weekend.
McCashin scoreda fifth try but it was deemed a penalty try after he was scragged by the collar as he touched down. He had the ball on a string in his kicking game, passed like he was threading a needle and showed Waikite they had more holes in their defence than Swiss cheese.
The former John Paul College student, who plays for last year's champions, has fitness on his side. "The last couple of seasons I've been a bit unlucky with injury with my ankle ... then I fractured my cheek again."
Te Puke coach Craig Jeffries believes McCashin just needs a lucky break.
"You see some of these Super Rugby first-fives that are playing the game, I just think Cash needs a chance. He needs good ball to play with, he's an exceptional talent," he said.
McCashin wasn't the only Te Puke player to score tries. Left winger Jack Wilson touched down five times at the weekend and was like a wrecking ball on attack.
