The first piece of the Western Bay of Plenty Rugby sub union championship silverware will be decided at Blake Park on Saturday, when Mount Maunganui and Greerton Marist meet to decide the local colts title.

At stake is the Ike Tangitu Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Western Bay age group championship. For the first time for for years, there is a final decider - with the championship having been fought out within the confines of the Baywide Colts competition in recent seasons.

Defending champions and top qualifier Mount Maunganui won through to the title decider when they beat Tauranga Sports 39-25 last weekend. Greerton Marist had to battle to the line to grab a 17-9 victory over Te Puke Sports at Te Puke's headquarters.

Revenge will be added to Mount Maunganui's desire for back-to-back championships, after Greerton beat the Mount 26-20 in the round robin section.

Meanwhile, in the Seeka KI Western BOP competition, Tauranga Sports could take a big step towards wrapping up the first round title, when they play Rangataua in the curtain raiser at Te Ariki Park. Tauranga Sports are top of the standings with a four point buffer.

There is likely to be large crowd on hand at Maharia Winiata Park, when Judea square off against Arataki.

Judea has been the big improver of this year's local rugby competition.

After narrowly losing their first three matches, they are unbeaten in five games. However they face a formidable challenge from Arataki, who have promotion back to Baywide rugby firmly on their agenda.
