Magic's Sam Sinclair aiming for victory against Central Pulse in her Rotorua homecoming

Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic aim to continue their unbeaten start to the ANZ Premiership in Rotorua.

Magic, on the hunt for a third straight win, take on Central Pulse at the Energy Events Centre, tomorrow night.

The new-look side go into the crucial game on the back of two impressive results - beating Tactix 71-48 and a 67-47 victory over the Stars, with the games just one day apart.

The Pulse, currently training in Cambridge, claimed a nail-biting 56-55 win over the Mystics in their opening ANZ Premiership super round match.

Magic midcourter Sam Sinclair - a former John Paul College student - said she was excited to be back playing in her home town and was confident her side could maintain their unbeaten start.

"I'm really excited to be back here. I get a day off before Wednesday and am definitely heading home to see the family and enjoy being back in town," she said. "I think a few people are quite surprised with what a strong start we've made because we have a young, fresh team. We haven't surprised ourselves though. The new-look team is going really well [and] we want to take the game to Pulse."

The Magic and Pulse met 18 times in the former Trans-Tasman Netball League, with Magic winning 13 and the Pulse five of the encounters. One of those clashes was in Rotorua and the Magic won the Round 8, 2010 match 56-44.

Despite the dominant record Sinclair said Magic weren't taking anything for granted and targeted the Pulse defence combination of Katrina Grant and Phoenix Karaka as a "big hurdle to overcome".

"Pulse will have done their homework on us and having seen them so far they are threatening and have a strong line-up," she said.

"We know that we have strong vision and that capability to turn a defence but Katrina and Phoenix are always hunting out there," she said. "The key will be to mix it up and turn them inside out.

"We know that we are good at changing our style up during the game - moving from a long to a short game. We'll just have to keep them off their guard and then shutting them down in attack."

Magic have the bonus of fielding Lenize Potgieter - the ANZ Premiership-leading scorer after round 1, with 104 goals across her two matches to average 52 goals a match at 95 per cent accuracy.

The Magic also have the best defensive record after Round 1 with just 47.5 goals against per match, while the Pulse have the second-best record with 55 goals against.

Sinclair, one of five players in the Magic squad to have played test netball, said she hoped a Rotorua crowd would lift her performance.

"This is a homecoming for me, it's so awesome. The crowd always gets really behind the team and creates a good atmosphere. Hopefully this will raise the game of each player even more because we don't want to stop this winning streak."
