Flying his favourite kite, the Combat V2, designed and supplied by Switchkites, Jacobs used a combination of power and flawless consistent manoeuvres to secure his world title ranking.
MJ, as he is known, has been kiteboarding for 11 years, since he went down to Tay St beach on a windy day when he was 12 and saw legendary rider Dave Edwards in action.
From that moment he was hooked on kiteboarding. He plans to keep chasing his dream of being world number one.
To get there he knows he has to keep working hard and always improving.
"Focus and commitment, you have to be very determined, if you're not it will never happen," Jacobs said.
Jacobs has won the NZ Open title five times and at the end of last year was ranked fifth in the world. His rise to number two means his dream of becoming the best in the world is getting closer to reality.
He knows a move to Europe would help him out financially, as that's where the money is available, but the born-and-bred Mount boy is not keen on a permanent move away.
"It is possible to make a living on tour, but nothing like as much as surfing. The top European guys I compete with have done well enough to own houses, but I'm just scraping along being a professional.
"I have thought about moving to Europe but it isn't any better for training than it is here. Everyone goes to Cape Town, Brazil and Perth to train.
"I love New Zealand. I wouldn't want to leave it but I'll see what happens."
Jacob's next stop on the world tour will be in at Marsala, Italy in June.
