Led by an incredible seven-wicket haul from left-arm quick Trent Boult, Tauranga atoned for last year's washed-out result by blitzing the Attrill Cup final yesterday against Eastern Bay of Plenty at Tauranga Domain.
Boult grabbed an amazing double hat-trick _ three wickets with consecutive balls twice. He was almost unplayable as he dismissed seven Eastern Bay batsmen.
Taking first use of the Tauranga Domain wicket, Tauranga made a rollicking start with Greerton's Richard Earl dominant, his riveting 75 the leading knock for Tauranga as they hit 230.
Jono Boult continued his stunning summer with 35 while 'keeper Craig Budd chipped in with an unbeaten 23.
Dillion Collier took three wickets for the Eastern Bay, with Dean Butterworth and James Mitchell grabbing two apiece.
In a frightening display of pace bowling Boult removed the Eastern Bay top order of Barry Kilgariff, Brook Simpson and Tom Yates with successive balls. Half an hour later it was the turn of James Mitchell _ who took a hat-trick in club cricket the previous day _ Butterworth and Joe Taylor to face Boult's fury.
A middle-order defence of 22 from Steven Ford and a rearguard 20 not out from Simon Mees saw the visitors reach 100 before the final wicket fell.
