Katikati croquet player Steve Piercy (0 handicap) has shown top form over two days at the Ryman Croquet Tournament.
Piercy was the only player in the open division left unbeaten after 11 games.
Two of his games went to the 13th hoop, with narrow last minute wins against Sue Roberts(3hcp) and Don Tregoweth (3hcp).
John Broughton (1hcp) also kept in touch with Piercy in a hard-fought game, but time ran out with the score 5-4. Broughton was runner-up in the event.
Zyelette Shepherd was also unbeaten in the intermediate section. Three of her games went to the 13th hoop, one of which was against Jim Gilligan, the runner-up in the competition.
Margaret Mabey won the primary division with five wins from seven games. Kath Manning, the runner-up, also won five games, but was beaten by Mabey in the sixth round of the competition.
The handicap doubles event had 14 teams taking part. Isobel Madden, on the advice of her playing partner Joyanne Merrick, made the winning shot with an excellent jump through the 12th hoop to win the competition against Margaret Mabey and Adrienne Coad.
