RBHS replied with a penalty and the teams went into the half 12-6 to TBC.
The second half saw great defence and commitment by both teams. RBHS made its one and only break on the TBC line and managed to get in behind them and run in a try with 10 minutes to go.
The conversion gave RBHS a 13-12 lead. TBC played the last five minutes in the RBHS half and in the last minute set up for a drop goal. Unfortunately it faded in the last second. RBHS win 13-12.
The Senior A Basketball team had an up and down week. Tuesday's game playing the defending champions Fraser Titans resulted in a loss. On Wednesday the boys played Bethlehem College's Senior A. With a few glitches in the team's overall performance, the team still managed to pull away with a convincing win.
For the second time in eight days the TBC 1st XI Football took on the league leaders. Taupo started strongly, going ahead after 15 minutes with a nicely taken goal. We fought hard to get ourselves back in the game and equalised shortly after. With half time approaching, Taupo struck again and took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Fatigue took over in the second period. Staunch as we were, we could not stop the Taupo assault. Several Taupo players showed their strength and experience as they netted three further times in the second half. Credit must go to the Taupo attack for the manner in which they unlocked our defence, with the game finishing 5-1.
This week the TBC 1st XI Hockey team played the Otumoetai Blues, which was a top of the table clash. We got off to a slow start with the Blues scoring first. They dominated a lot of the first half and our tackling was weak. Luckily as the game wore on the older men got a bit restless and we pulled through with a 3-2 win, with Thomas Reid, Joe Lyons and Sam Limmer scoring our goals. This put us on top of the table and the boys should be happy with their performance.

Michael Booth was the player of the match with two tries. On Saturday, they played Otumoetai College first XV in a close game, losing by one point 13-12. In another first for the college, we now have four rugby teams playing in the regular season. It is awesome to see the foundation of rugby at the college getting stronger.
In hockey, the boys' intermediate A hockey XI, with a strong defensive game, beat Otumoetai Intermediate 3-0. Our first XI boys' team won three goals to one against Otumoetai College. Player of the day was Chris Johnston with the goals scored by Andrew Fraser-Mackenzie, Jacob McBride and Tiaan John.
Madison Rennie ran an impressive 12:42 for 3km to come third at the Waikato-Bay of Plenty championships held in Hamilton.
The Bethlehem senior A boys basketball played Mount College senior A boys in a thrilling match this week. Jeremy Davidson and Nicholas Adams helped keep BC ahead until the final minutes of the fourth quarter when their opponents tied the game to go in to overtime. Nicholas Adams top scored with 23 points, keeping BC in the game with accurate shooting, organisation and distribution of the ball. With Mount in possession and BC in front by three points and with only 10 seconds left, we stepped up the aggressive defence and won the game.

Katikati
Basketball: Last Wednesday the Katikati junior boys' team played Aquinas Junior B. Aquinas came out with strong defence and after a low scoring first half Katikati managed to bring it back for a convincing win 41-23. Well done to Jayden Van Timmeren for an outstanding all-round game and Suraj Singh for some great in-bounding play.
On Monday night our Year 7/8 boys' team played in round three of their competition and had a win against Otumoetai B, who after two rounds were winning the boys' B grade competition. The score was 33-21. Scott Alywin was player of the game for outstanding offence after landing several long range shots.
Indoor football: We had four teams entered into this Bay of Plenty competition - senior boys, senior girls and Year 7/8 boys and girls. It was a successful competition for us with the Year 7/g girls winning, Year 7/8 boys third and our two senior teams coming second. The senior boys lost to Aquinas College on countback and senior girls lost to Tauranga Girls'.
Football: Our first XI girls played Te Puke. The game was in contrast to the previous week, with Katikati strong from the start and showed leadership in the game. The backs were led by Brittany Mascelle, with Hayley Sherriff keeping the midfield focused as Emma McDonald and Monique Shea did an amazing job supplying ball to the forwards, who got close to scoring several times.
This led to Emma Roberts scoring five goals, Brianna Bonnar scoring three and Alex Jones scoring one goal, giving us a 9-2 victory. Brianna Bonnar was player of the day.
The Katikati College boys' first XI took on Aquinas. With a 2-1 win against Aquinas earlier in the season Katikati were keen to make it two in a row. The game started fairly evenly with score one-all after 15 minutes before Katikati stepped up their game to win 7-3.
Multisport: One of our Year 13 girls, Lucy Newlands, competed in the 3D Rotorua Off-Road Winter multisport festival. The race consisted of a 4km kayak around Lake Okareka, followed by a 15km mountainbike through some grade 3 tracks through to the Redwoods transition. The final leg was a 6km run with a very steep hill climb to start followed by a lot of downhill mountain running and stairs. Lucy was fifth in the national secondary schools championships.
Tauranga Girls
'It was a very exciting week for Tauranga Girls' College last week, as our Senior A volleyball team became the first ever New Zealand team to compete at the World Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships in Toulon, France.
The competition is only held every two years.
The girls were invited to take part thanks to their impressive status of national champions for three consecutive years.
They were up against some very tough international competition, and won against Latvia, France B and Cyprus, placing them 18th overall out of 28 teams.
The games were all pretty close and it was a great experience for the team.
After all their hard work they are currently enjoying having a week of travel and sightseeing before returning home.

A last minute decision to enter an Aquinas Year 7/8 football team into a recent Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools Indoor Football competition paid great dividends. The team emerged the winners.
The Aquinas boys played three pool matches, beating Katikati 19-4, also winning against Bethlehem 8-3, and then going on to draw against Papamoa College 4-4.
The boys went on to win the semifinal convincingly with a 23-0 result against Papamoa 2.

The final went to Aquinas with a 9-1 result.
