Cricket: The race for the winner of the senior cricket competition is heating up. On Saturday, BC played Otumoetai and struggled to make early inroads with our bowling. It looked as if the opposition was going to post an impressive score, but we were able to regroup and restricted our opponents to 187. We made a slow start, losing both openers before we had made 15. However a fine 42 from Matt Cole, and 25 from Bede Murray put us back on track and with further lower order determination from Chris Johnston (37) and Tom Rutherford (32 no), we reached their score in the 40th over.

This win has helped us secure top spot in round play and we now have a home semi-final this coming Saturday again versus Otumoetai.

Volleyball: Congratulations to Jack Preston and Dylan Wadsworth who have made the Bay of Plenty Coastlands Representative team. In the National Junior Volleyball tournament, all four of our teams are competing in their respective first divisions. Early results suggest that the 10A Boys and 10A Girls teams will be in contention for top places at the end of the week.

Otumoetai College have five teams - three girls and two boys team - competing at this top level competition. Our Junior A Girls team was seeded No.1 after placing first in the Bay of Plenty Champs. Their results after the first day are three wins against Taradale HS 25:9 and 25:5, Te Puke HS 25:17 and 25:8 and Westlake GHS A 25:15 and 25:23.

Our Girls 10B team was placed second in pool play after two wins against Woodford House Prem and One Tree Hill College, and a loss to Western Heights HS and our Girls Year 9A team won against Orewa College and Te Aroha College and lost to Kawerau College.

The Boys 10A team had two wins against Taradale HS and Long Bay College and a loss to Westlake Boys HS A, which sees them placed in second position after day one. The Boys' 9A are developing their team strategies and enjoying the tougher competition at a higher level. The event culminates with finals on tomorrow. Good luck all teams.
